Wilkesboro Baptist Church is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. We have adapted the following
from the Baptist Faith and Message.
The Holy Bible was written by divinely inspired men and is God's revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction with God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter.
We believe the Scripture is true, trustworthy, and authoritative for life. We believe the Bible is timeless, and therefore its unchanging principles speak to the pressing problems of modern life, exalting its central figure, the Lord Jesus Christ.
There is one living and true God eternally existent in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
God the Father reigns with providential care over His universe, His creatures, and the flow of human history according to the purposes of His grace.
God the Son is Jesus Christ, God Incarnate, born of the virgin Mary, who lived a sinless life, died a substitutionary death on the cross, was risen from the dead, and reigns in heaven with the Father.
God the Holy Spirit is fully divine who exalts Christ, convicts men of sin, righteousness, and judgment and empowers believers and the church in worship, evangelism, and ministry.
Man is God’s special creation made in God’s own image, male and female. Man sinned of his own free choice bringing sin into the human race. Yet man retains dignity and worth being made in God’s image as evidenced by Christ’s sacrificial death for his salvation.
Salvation is the work of God through Jesus Christ offered freely to men who submit in faith and repentance to Jesus Christ as Lord. Salvation was obtained by Christ’s substitutionary death on the cross, happens in a moment in justification, continues throughout life in sanctification, and ultimately finds its fulfillment by perfecting the believer eternally in glorification.
A New Testament Church of the Lord Jesus Christ is an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel, observing the two ordinances of Christ, governed by His laws, exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His Word, and seeking to extend the gospel to the ends of the earth.
Each congregation operates under the Lordship of Christ and each member is responsible and accountable to Christ as Lord. Its scriptural officers are pastors/elders and deacons.
The ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper picture salvation.
Christian baptism is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer's death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus.
The Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming.
Evangelism and missions are the duty and privilege of every follower of Christ and every church.
Making disciples of all nations is the mission declared by Christ for his followers.
Believers should, therefore, prioritize making disciples of others by lifting them up in prayer, building relationships with them, engaging in ministries with others, sharing the gospel with others, defending the Christian faith, and engaging in local and global missions.
Regarding last things, God in His own time and own way, will bring the world to its appropriate end.
Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly. The dead will be raised, and Christ will judge all men in righteousness.
The unrighteous will be consigned to Hell. The righteous will receive their reward and will dwell forever in Heaven with the Lord.
Stewardship is the privilege of the believer and church to recognize God as the source of all blessings, temporal and spiritual, all that we have and are we owe to Him.
Christians have a spiritual responsibility to the whole world, a holy trusteeship in the gospel, and a binding stewardship in their possessions. They are, therefore, under obligation to serve Him with their time, talents, and material possessions.
The family has been ordained by God to be the foundational institution of human society. It is composed of persons related to one another by marriage, blood, or adoption.
