Lay Elder
Marsh Lyall was born in North Wilkesboro, NC on June 28, 1939.
Marsh accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at the age of 12 while attending Vacation Bible School and was baptized in August 1951 at First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro. He was involved in Sunday School, Baptist Training Union, Royal Ambassadors, youth activities, and Boy Scouts of America.
While at Mars Hill Junior College he met his wife Pat and they were married on August 6, 1960 at Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC.
Marsh was ordained as a deacon in 1965 and began teaching Sunday School, worked with the youth and young adults, and assisted with the development of a preschool program.
In 1970 Marsh moved his family to Burlington and they became involved in the establishment of a new church on the west side of Burlington. Marsh and Pat became charter members of the new church; Holly Hills Baptist Church. All three of their children were baptized there. While at Holly Hills Baptist Church he served as a Sunday School teacher, deacon, on pastor search committee and other committees.
In 1983 Marsh accepted the position of Superintendent of Wilkes County Schools and moved his family back to Wilkes County. In 1984 Marsh and Pat joined WBC. Marsh has served as Sunday School teacher, deacon, deacon chairman, chairman of deacon personnel and finance committees, preschool committee, member of a pastor search committee, participated in two mission trips to Alaska, one to Guatemala, participated in Baptist Men mission work on the Gulf Coast, Eastern NC, the NC Baptist Camp Caraway facilities maintenance project, and local mission projects.
He has been a messenger from WBC to the Brushy Mountain Baptist Association and is a member of the BMBA Administrative Team.
In 1997 Marsh was invited to join The Gideons International by Mr. Bob Morgan. He has been an active Gideon since being accepted and has served as membership chairman, vice-president, president, chaplain, area membership leader, and church speaker.
Marsh and Pat have three adult children, Terri, Keith and David, as well as several grandchildren.
